Mom jeans: hot or not?

Not so long ago, I remember watching movies or music videos from the 90`s, thinking: "Thank god these shapeless high-wasted jeans are long gone, it would be a nightmare to wear them - so ugly they are!" Little did I know that in 2013 the pants, that are generally known as "mom jeans," will make a huge comeback, and even I, who used to think they were truly horrible, would be tempted to try them on! I guess this is just one of those hot fashion trends - the first time you see it, you`re put off, but it grows on you, and before you know it - you begin to find it sexy and adorable, and you want to wear it too!

But no matter how trendy, the question still remains, are "mom jeans" your friend or foe? Can they ever be flattering to the figure?  Just looking at the beaming Beverly Hills cast above, all of them wearing the  favorite jeans of their time (which happen to be the jeans in question), I notice that girls appear extra curvy, especially Kelly - the bobshell of the show. However Donna is looking fine. Why? Exactly, because she is really skinny. And I guess that`s your answer - either ditch the mom jeans unless you are very skinny, or go for it, if you really don`t mind visually adding extra centimeters to your belly, hips and butt. And if you`re still unsure, here are some more mom jean looks as well as shopping suggestions if you do fancy them.

Hell`s Angel Kate Moss

Kate Moss went all biker in a new shoot by Terry Richardson for Matchless. Though the look is not quite as sex-drugs-and-rock-n-roll as you might expect, but rather a softened, sensual image with flowing locks and 60s eyeliner - in short, very Bridgitte Bardot. In fact looks like her song and video "Harley Davidson" was the inspirations behind these stylish pictures.

Fashion highlight: ombre jeans

I don`t know about you, but I`m crazy about everything ombre this season. Especially it applies to my hair (still experimenting with the colors) and the jeans. I know there are DIY methods to give your favorite pair the trendy ombre look, and I will soon dedicate a post to it, but since I`m not the crafty one, I just go for readymade versions - such as those found on on and

Here are some of my personal favorites:

Denim Inspiration of the Day

You probably heard "Blue Jeans" by Lana Del Ray way too many times, so here`s a pretty good cover by Eugene McGuinness. Perhaps it`s less incredibly sexy, but more rocking for sure.

Denim nails? Yes Please!

For those of you who haven`t heard of this yet, I bring you the good news - denim effect manicure courtesy of Nails Inc. Finally someone came up with the idea! Looks gorgeous on the pictures, but to know for sure if it delivers on the promise I naturally need to try it and urgently too! Alas, it looks like the coveted polish is not yet available, but Nails Inc offers you to sign up here and be notified once it becomes possible to place the order.

Welcome, rebels!

Whether you followed the link I posted somewhere or stumbled upon this blog by chance, you might be wondering - why "denim rebel"? Is denim really that rebellious? Well, in a way, it is. Over the last 100 years, jeans made their transition from the practical uniform of cowboys to the key fashion item. But besides carrying the spirit of the Wild West, denim became the uniform of the young, wild and reckless, and has played a vital role in the fashion culture all these years. Naturally denim is now worn pretty much by all - from toddlers to their great grandparents, and yet it still carries its eternal free spirit, especially if represented by a pair of classic blue jeans, distressed and combined with printed tees, leather and cool booties. For me personally denim is just one of those favorite things - over the years I`ve owned everything in denim, from a pair of Converse to a wallet, and jeans remain the key part of almost every outfit I wear. I guess for me having so much denim in one`s wardrobe signifies refusal to grow up - at least in terms of style, and refusal to become serious and ladylike - choosing mischief, rock-n-roll, and living on the edge instead. And this is what The Denim Rebel is going to be about - rocking it out, staying cool and free and enjoying all the awesome denim life has to offer.
